Club members take on the world!
Four members of Hereford Triathlon Club did themselves proud at the World Age Group Sprint Championships in Brisbane, Australia.
Mark Sims came 6th in the mens 30 to 34 age group in 1:03:08, finishing off a fabulous season which has seen him win prizes in most of the races he's entered.
Ursula Hankinson was 21st in the womens 20 to 24 age group in 1:17:18 and Clare Scott was 19th in the womens 30 to 34 age group in 1:16:07. Wayne Poulter was 39th in 1:11:29 in the mens 40 to 44 age group.
All four took on the best in the world over the 400 metre sea swim, 20 kilometre bike and 10 kilometre run. They were selected for the championships after finishing in the top four at scheduled events across Britain this year.
And...
Due to his success in Australia, Mark was invited to race the elites at the Barcelona Triathlon. Despite being "utterly terrified" in the days before the race, he had a stormer. He came 18th overall out of 28 elites!! He set a new PB of 1.57.39!!! On race morning the sea had some pretty big waves and it looked like it would be a strong current, but he seemed ok in the start pen. He came out of the swim (sub 22) then got into a pack and rode 40km in 58 mins and then finished off by smashing a 34.28 10k run. We are truly not worthy - well done Mark, we're all very proud of you!
