Local athletes triumph at Hereford Sprint Triathlon
Hereford Triathlon Club’s Clare Scott took top honours at the city’s annual sprint triathlon, winning the women’s race in 56 minutes and 28 seconds. Clare finished more than a minute ahead of Jane Wood from Tri Team Glos in second place (48:49) and third woman Ros Viner (49:51).
In the men’s event, Nick Slim from Tewkesbury Tri Club finished the 400 metre swim, 16 kilometre bike and 5 kilometre run in 48 minutes and 16 seconds. Steve King from Hereford Kayak Club was second in 48:49, two seconds ahead of third-place finished Thomas Hughes from Leicester Tri Club.
Hereford Triathlon Club’s Jon Tetley was fourth in 50:24 and the first veteran to finish was Andrew Southall from Black Country Tri who finished in 50:55 and fifth place overall.
Sally Poll from Tri Team Glos was the first women veteran to finish in 59:24 and her club also triumphed in the team event, beating Black Country Tri to first place.
Paul Watts from the Royal National College in Hereford and Wye Valley Runners was the first athlete with a disability to enter the triathlon. Together with his guide runner Barry Young, also from Wye Valley Runners, he finished the course in 1:23:36.
