They did it!!!
15 members of Hereford Triathlon Club took part in one of the world's toughest endurance events, Ironman Austria, and survived! The 15 all completed the 2 1/2 mile open-water swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile marathon run despite the 32 degrees heat on race day.
It wouldn't have been possible without you - their friends and training colleagues at Hereford Triathlon Club. A huge thanks to you all for your amazing support and well done to everybody who did so well at the Worcester and Eastnor tris whilst they were away.
The first Hereford athlete home was Colin Kerfoot who finished in 11 hours and 38 seconds followed by Ian Rivers in 11:10:51 and Andy Taylor in 11:16:04. Nicola Goodwin was the first woman from Hereford to finish in 11:53:40.
3 thousand people from across the world entered the annual race but only 2027 finished. Many people dropped out beforehand as injury or the intensive training took its toll and almost 300 athletes started but didn't finish the race as they were overwhelmed by the heat.
Nicola Goodwin recorded the fastest swim time in the Hereford group with 1:04:09, Ian Rivers had the fastest bike split time of 5:16:12 (just 4 seconds faster than Jon Tetley) and Andy Taylor did the fastest run in 4:07:26.
